Supported Internships

National Star College is an outstanding (Ofsted 2018) provider of specialist education. Our Steps into Work Supported Internships are run in partnership with major employers across the country, each of whom are strongly committed to providing valuable opportunities for people aged 16 and over who have a learning or physical disability.

The aim of a supported internship is to support learners with a disability into paid full-time or part-time employment. This is done through a work placement based at the employer’s premises and studying towards appropriate qualifications – such as English and maths. Interns are supported by a tutor, job coach and job buddy.

A supported internship is a one-year course and runs during term-time, four days a week. At the end of the programme individuals will be supported to search for jobs, apply for jobs and go to interviews. Currently, 70.5% of interns successfully move into paid employment.

We run supported internships in Gloucester, Hereford and London These offer opportunities in sectors that include administration, agriculture, catering and leisure. For details about individual programmes, please select one of the locations from the left-hand-side menu.
