Supporting young people with complex disabilities
There is no such thing as a typical student or long-term resident at National Star – that’s what makes working for our charity so interesting and varied. We have students and residents with autism and learning disabilities, many with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). Some are non-verbal and use communication aids such as AAC devices while others have physical disabilities which means they rely upon a wheelchair to get around. All of the young people we support have huge personalities and like to have fun as they work towards achieving their aspirations.

Top three reasons why you should join the team at National Star
- We’ll help you develop in your role, providing plenty of training and development opportunities. For internal candidates we offer degree apprenticeships in many healthcare disciplines including nursing, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
- Our care worker roles are flexible with part-time and term-time positions available across our sites in Gloucestershire, Hereford and Wales.

Can I volunteer?
Safeguarding and the workloads of our frontline care, therapy and teaching teams mean that we are not in a position to offer work experience or volunteering placements at National Star.
However, we welcome volunteers willing to support our fundraising team or those wishing to gain retail experience in our new charity shop at 35 Hucclecote Road, Gloucester and our soon to open new shop at Honeybourne Way, Cheltenham!
