Buzzing into work

All work outcome students are asked about their likes, dislikes, and aspirations for the future to identify placements that align with their existing skill set and interests. And Anna, was very clear where her interests lie, with bees and nature!
Louisa from the Gloucestershire Beekeepers’ Association (GBKA) was more than willing to partner with National Star when approached by Anna’s job coach, Maia Flenley.
Anna completed a six-week placement with the GBKA. During her weekly beehive sanctuary visits, she learnt how to identify the queen bee, built frames for the hives, and expanded her knowledge on how honey is created and harvested.
Anna said: ‘I found it amazing, and it’s increased my confidence in talking to new employers and sharing my knowledge, as well as learning new things. I was surprised at how nice and relaxing I found it being around the bees. I’m really looking forward to doing it again next year.’
Anna has started her second year with newfound confidence. She is eager to explore a variety of placements, including commercial kitchens and a steam railway, before rejoining the GBKA team again in the new year.
National Star works with over twenty-five organisations across various sectors to source rewarding placements for students. Young adults with disabilities deserve a personalised education and work placements that meet their aspirations.
