Flying high thanks to you

National Star students are experiencing the freedom and creativity of aerial dance after supporters helped to fund an incredible aerial rig.

Without the generosity of supporters like you the charity would not have been able to purchase this specialist equipment, which opens up a world of movement and self-expression for young adults with disabilities.

Aerial sessions help students develop strength, coordination, balance, and flexibility, while also improving communication, social interaction, and confidence.

For many, flying outdoors enhances their sense of calm, connection with nature, and overall wellbeing.

Sarah Gardiner, Aerial Rig Tutor said: ‘The aerial rig transcends the experience of flying in the dance studio by taking it into the great outdoors.

‘Our version of aerial dance offers an inclusive and accessible way to ‘fly’ that meets the needs of our students. It is not just about building strength and skills, it is also a highly sensory experience which allows students to gain a greater sense of their bodies and find movement and control, as well as relaxation and regulation.

‘I just love seeing the students’ faces and their expressions of exuberant or calm joy.’

Before the generous donation we had been forced to hire an aerial rig annually. With the purchase of our own rig increasing numbers of students can benefit from this experience for months, rather than weeks, every summer.
