Leaving college can be daunting, but former students Louis and Josh, have taken this in their stride.

Both young men have continued to grow, contribute, and thrive within their communities since leaving National Star in Hereford

While at college, Louis and Josh built valuable skills through the work outcomes programme, improving their maths and English, gaining employability qualifications, and developing confidence through travel and work experience.

Since leaving college, both have embraced opportunities to become more independent and engaged. Louis volunteers at Echo Radio in Leominster, where he began by helping behind the scenes and has since taken on a presenter role on the Friday show. His volunteering has not only strengthened his communication and teamwork skills but also helped him make lasting friendships. Through Echo Radio, Louis has found a real sense of community belonging.

Like Louis, Josh has continued to flourish. He has continued his college work placement by volunteering at Halo Leisure in Leominster. Here, Josh supports the team at reception, ensuring stock is available and handling enquiries. His reliability and positive attitude have made him a valued member of the Halo Leisure team.

Josh said: ‘I really enjoy working here. I look after the reception stock and enjoy learning how to use the till.’

Jon McLaurin, Halo Leisure’s Manager, shared: ‘It’s a pleasure having Josh work with us. Creating an inclusive environment for our staff, customers and volunteers is important to Halo, and the work Josh does for us adds real value to what we do.’

Louis and Josh’s progression demonstrate the importance of National Star’s work with young people with disabilities and how it impacts their future.
