Students explore the farm

A group of students from our day college in Mamhilad, Wales, spent a wonderful day at a local farm, where they learnt about a range of animals and participated in a fun-filled treasure hunt.
Each student also had the opportunity to select their own pumpkin, adding their unique designs before taking them back to college to be carved. The day trip offered specialised experiences for everyone, allowing each student to shine in their own way.
One usually quiet student, who often only repeats what others say, found a special connection with the farm’s rabbits. When he saw one up close, his face lit up. Unprompted, he began speaking softly to the rabbit, carefully stroking it and making sure it felt safe.
It was a heartwarming moment, showing just how powerful animal connections can be.
Meanwhile, other students explored the grounds, learning fascinating facts about alpacas, pygmy goats, and even the farm’s long-necked ducks. One student proudly took on the role of guide, showing his classmates around with confidence. Having recently started a work placement at the farm, he was eager to share his knowledge and demonstrate the communication and employability skills he’s been developing.
The visit provided something for everyone, from building confidence and communication to discovering new interests and friendships. We love seeing our students support one another, step outside their comfort zones, and continue growing as young adults in control of their lives.
