National Star students in Hereford are excited for the autumn term when they can move into the additional space created by the extension of the Hereford campus.

Students had their views and opinions heard and were consulted on the colours of the rooms. They will also be creating artwork to adorn the walls. Student Stacie said: ‘I am excited to use the garden. I am looking forward to planting flowers for everyone to enjoy.’

Another student Millie shared: ‘I am so excited for the new kitchen!’

Thanks to all the fundraisers, trusts and foundations that have supported our expansion in Hereford, including those who have already purchased a puzzle piece designed by students.

The students decided that they wanted to be part of the ‘Building a Brighter Future in Hereford’ campaign, contributing to something that would make a lasting impact. The result, a large-scale 100-piece jigsaw puzzle.

The project has provided valuable opportunities for students to develop skills in creative thinking, marketing, communication, and teamwork.

Each piece of the puzzle represents a £10 donation, and with your support, they aim to raise £1,000. As a special thank you, each supporter will receive a keychain of the exact puzzle piece they sponsored as a keepsake.

Students promoted the puzzle at Hereford Market, encouraging shoppers to stop and talk to them about National Star and the puzzle concept.

‘I really enjoy speaking to people about my college. We sold nine puzzle pieces at the market’ said H, a National Star in Hereford student.

One shopper said: ‘Watching your students embrace the community to create awareness was heart-warming. I loved how it was the students taking the lead in the activities.’ Every jigsaw piece sold is a step closer to a brighter, more inclusive future in Hereford.

The new two-storey extension includes two new classrooms, two additional personal care rooms, a multi-skills kitchen and communal space. It will also make improvements to the existing main building to accommodate more learners with a wide range of needs.

Our fundraising efforts will continue in the months and years to come to pay for a shopping list of specialist equipment and other resources needed for students in Hereford.
