A community group called The Twin Arrows Golf Society has raised an incredible £50,315 for National Star.
The Twin Arrows has a long history rooted in friendship and community spirit. Drena and Pat Cox, together with their close friend Dave Fahey, set up the society in 2009 in memory of their dear friend Keith Jenkins. Since then, they have raised more than £250,000 for a range of charities.
The group chose to support National Star and set themselves an ambitious fundraising target of £50,000, a goal they exceeded in just over a year of dedicated effort.
Pat Cox, Chairman, said: ‘We chose this very deserving charity because one of our golfers, Stuart, has a son who attended National Star. Stuart couldn’t praise National Star enough and said that the one-on-one specialist education and training gave his son the confidence to realise and develop his skills, and since leaving the college he has secured a job that he loves.’
Throughout the year, the group took on a wide range of challenges, including a wing walk, a fire walk, running and cycling events, and joining National Star’s Sunrise Walk. They also organised a golf day and even performed songs from the film ‘The Full Monty’ in their local pub, alongside other community events.
Pat said: ‘Being able to see firsthand how the money raised made a difference to young people’s lives motivated everyone to go all out for National Star. The thing that touched us most was when we met the students; seeing the one-to-one support each student received, we found to be truly amazing.’
Catrin Viveash, Head of Fundraising, added: ‘The incredible efforts of The Twin Arrows have been truly inspiring, and we are grateful for all they have done. It will enable us to provide the specialist environment and equipment to ensure the young people we work with can reach their potential.’
