Ben achieves dream of working in catering

When Ben first arrived at National Star he lacked confidence, and withdrew from many of the social activities offered at college. However, it was clear that he had a positive and committed work ethic, and this was something the Job Mentor team knew they could build on.
Ben was passionate about working in catering, and so after exploring both his needs and interests, his Job Mentor organised a placement with Touching Souls Tea Rooms in Tewkesbury. This not only gave Ben the opportunity to experience a real catering environment for the first time, but also developed his social skills and confidence.
Ben’s next work placement took place within the junior kitchen of Cheltenham College Preparatory School. Keen to develop himself, Ben provided his Job Mentor with a list of the new skills he wished to learn. After this he was supported in improving his understanding of food hygiene, health and safety and stock-taking through the use of physical demonstrations and pictorial guides.
Ben made such a strong and positive impression on Cheltenham College Preparatory School that he was offered the opportunity to join them on a permanent basis. Ben was delighted to accept.
