The Transition Event offers an invaluable opportunity to see the huge range of services and products available, both locally and nationally, that can help students and their families access the support and opportunities they need to make a successful transition in the future. Come along to browse the providers, ask advice about specific challenges from the specialist organisations and also meet and talk to other parents about their experiences.
We appreciate that some students and other visitors may find busy, bright and noisy environments challenging. We will provide two sensory impairment friendly sessions to assist the accessibility of this event from 10am to 10.45am and 1.45pm to 2.30pm. We will ask staff, stall-holders and leads for activities to keep noise and chat to a bare minimum. Lighting will be reduced to create a more inviting ambience.
‘It’s very important – certainly for us – that we have some knowledge of what is available – the more information we can get as early as possible, the better’ – a first-year parent.
This will be a unique event that provides an exclusive opportunity for parents and visitors to gain access to an extensive range of services from a number of organisations in one place. In 2018 the event welcomed more than 40 exhibitors, including legal firms, specialist residential facilities, various therapy providers, charities and organisations offering advice and assistance, disability activity providers and much more.
This year’s Transition Event will take place on Thursday 4 April at National Star, 10am to 3.30pm.
