National Star changed my life and helped me become the person I am today

I remember my first day so clearly. I was 18 years old and scared! I have cerebral palsy and sight loss, so I needed help to get around.

I learned important life skills like budgeting, washing and how to do a weekly shop. I studied health and social care and did some work placements. My physiotherapy and swimming helped to manage my pain. National Star helped me learn to live independently and to try new things.

My eyes had finally been opened – there was a lot more to life than I had thought.

I’m 37 now and I’ve got my own place, I’ve got a job, and I can contribute to society, which is really important to me.

National Star has changed too. With specially-equipped facilities and services like long-term accommodation, National Star provides the opportunities for young people with disabilities to realise their true potential.

Where would I be without National Star? I’d probably still be relying on mum and dad. I wouldn’t be this independent. I wouldn’t be employed. National Star has opened doors for me. Think about what it could do for others.

Your generosity today will change lives forever.
