The Star Centre is renamed The National Star Centre for Disabled Youth to reflect the fact that students come from across the UK.

1971

The occupational therapy workshop is extended and refurbished.

1972

The National Star Centre gains specialist further education college status from the Department of Education and Science. The first purpose-built residential accommodation opens at Ullenwood. Octagonal Court, now known as Wilson in memory of Andrew Wilson, provides 48 study bedrooms and the number of students rises to 60.

Shortwood Farm, adjacent to the Ullenwood estate, is purchased to provide additional accommodation.

Ellen Wilson Speech Hall (in memory of Andrew Wilson’s mother) opens. It is used as a gymnasium and an assembly hall.
