About our learning programmes

National Star is an exciting and ‘Good’ (Ofsted 2023) independent specialist college for disabled students.

There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ National Star student. Most are between 16 and 25 years old and have a range of physical and learning disabilities. We offer full and part-time, residential and day courses for around 200 disabled students across England and Wales, with the flexibility to start every term.

Our colleges

The diversity of all learners is what makes National Star a unique and vibrant place to learn.

We will work with you to build an individual programme based on your interests, aspirations and requirements. Tutors, personal learning coordinators, care and support workers, healthcare and therapy staff will work together to enable you to achieve your goals.

If your aim is to get a job or voluntary role after college we can support you with that too.

Open Days

Visit our inspirational college for young people with disabilities aged 16 years and over. You will be able to look around our facilities as well as ask as many questions as you like about our learning programmes and how we’ll support you as a student.

Families and Carers Zone

Supporting families and carers is a vital part of every student’s journey at National Star. Our dedicated Families and Carers Zone brings together everything you need to feel informed, prepared and confident as your young person joins us. From detailed transition handbooks and student resources – including social stories, Makaton and Widgit materials – to guidance on EHCPs, grants and bursaries, it’s all in one place. You’ll also find information about our regular families and carers forums, offering the chance to connect with other families and discuss topics that matter to you.

Visit the Families and Carers Zone to explore the full range of support.

Our daughter Catrin who has very complex needs, has received outstanding support from the knowledgeable, committed and experienced staff at National Star during her time there. The progress she has made, particularly from the specialised therapies available to her, has been wonderful to see.
