Teisha’s story

Teisha, who is blind and has profound and multiple learning disabilities, has gained confidence, independence, and social skills at National Star in Hereford. She is now thriving in the community and planning for life beyond college.

The progress that Teisha has made while learning at National Star in Hereford has opened up a world of opportunities for her.

As an Engaging with the World pathway learner Teisha, who is blind and has profound and multiple learning disabilities, found it difficult to access any room other than her own classroom when she first started with us.

She found it hard to go out into the community, even to attend doctor’s appointments, because of feelings of anxiety and insecurity. Working on group learning exercises with her peers was extremely challenging and she found it uncomfortable to address anyone by their first name.

Without National Star... Teisha would not have received the best educational experience of her life

With our support Teisha now accesses Hereford city centre on a weekly basis, visiting coffee shops, Hereford Cathedral and local parks with other students. She loves visiting the cows at Wessington Court Farm, uses her peers’ names freely and is showing her sense of humour daily when teasing staff.

Teisha is busy exploring what activities she wants to engage in when she leaves National Star and has the confidence to visit new settings with ease. Gone are the days of her being uncomfortable to leave the confines of her own home.
