Work Outcomes and Personal Development
The Work Outcomes and Personal Development pathway supports young people with EHCPs to gain work skills, independence, and confidence through tailored learning, placements, and community inclusion.
The Work Outcomes and Personal Development pathway is for young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who wish to secure paid or voluntary work.
Work Outcomes and Personal Development students
Students have a range of needs, including physical and learning disabilities. We support them on a one-to-one or one-to-three basis in the classroom and off campus.
They learn with us for two or three years at National Star in Ullenwood or National Star in Hereford.
All learners must be willing to undertake internal work experience in year one and external work placements in years two/three.
Most students joining this pathway have achieved previous accreditation between entry level and level 2*
Preparing for adulthood
Community Inclusion: Students will explore their place and role within their local communities. There will be one-to-one and group sessions to explore leisure activities and developing relationships within college. Students gain experience of different work settings, so they can compare different career options.
Employment / Meaningful Occupation: Students develop essential work skills. These include communication, problem-solving, teamwork, time management, and adaptability. Internal and external placements with support from Job Coaches help students to plan for life after National Star.
Good Health: The pathway supports the physical and mental health needs of students. They consider healthy eating, stress management, the importance of exercise and keeping fit in ways that are meaningful to them.
Independent / Interdependent Living Skills: Students improve their independence, taking the lead in personal care and meal preparation, finance and budgeting skills. They are supported to take ownership of personal relationships and their own health needs. Students will explore their strengths, interests, and aspirations, and develop a positive mindset towards future living arrangements and careers.

How will learning be assessed?
We decide students’ starting points with the help of supporting documentation, previous qualifications and initial feedback following assessment.
During their first half term, the skills of students will be observed and assessed.
Student progress and student feedback is gathered and reported termly. All students have regular progress reviews in line with annual Education Health and Care plan (EHCP).
Students work towards City & Guilds Employability qualifications. Internal work placements take place within the college reception team and at National Star’s onsite bistro, campus shop and print social enterprise.
