Kate’s story
Kate, a National Star work outcomes student and aspiring engineer, impressed Mira Showers with innovative ideas, confidently presenting solutions while on work placement.
Kate has her sights firmly set on becoming an engineer; a lifelong dream that is now within reach as she nears the end of her studies.
With both parents working in the industry, Kate has grown up with a natural interest in engineering. She is currently studying on our work outcomes pathway and is working closely with her Job Coach, Mike Youart, to explore relevant placement opportunities that align with her passion.
Recently, Kate visited Mira Showers, a Gloucestershire-based company, where she met with a team of engineers and was given a creative challenge: to come up with ideas for a one-litre shower concept. Kate carefully considered the environmental and practical aspects of the brief and generated innovative ideas to bring the concept to life.
She was later invited back to Mira Showers’ headquarters to present her ideas. One of the company’s senior engineers praised her for working independently on the project, noting that her creative solutions matched those generated by an entire engineering class from a specialist college who were given the same task. It’s fair to say that Kate left the meeting beaming with pride.
Senior Job Coach Mike Youart shared: ‘Kate worked really hard on getting her ideas onto a PowerPoint and she presented with real confidence’.
Following the presentation, Kate and Mike were given a full tour of the company’s facilities. They explored various aspects of the engineering process, from product testing and functionality to the rich history of the company. Kate remained highly engaged throughout, asking insightful questions and showing her enthusiasm for the field.
