Helping you to engage with the world

National Star College unlocks the potential of young people with a range of complex, physical, medical and profound learning disabilities. Our specialists can break down barriers that many learners may have experienced throughout their lives.

We have experts in a range of fields including Intensive Interaction, Sensory Integration and Total Communication. For learners on the autistic spectrum, including those with sensory processing difficulties, we have structured and consistent learning environments. This helps them to fully engage with their learning so they can develop their skills.

Our multi-sensory programme offers exciting and innovative learning for young people with visual, hearing and cognitive impairments. We take students’ interests into account when developing their personalised programmes. For example, music is often the hook to enhancing engagement with others and can be used as a tool to help students manage their emotions.

It’s our goal to support students to work with others, manage their own emotions, become more mobile, maintain their health and wellbeing and ultimately make their own choices and decisions. We want nothing more than to equip students with lifelong skills so they can become more independent.

Learning activities may include:

  • Art
  • Ceramics
  • Cooking
  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Gardening
  • Music
  • Sensory stories
  • Sport

At the end of a student’s programme their learning will be formally recognised through entry level accreditation in Personal Progress, Communication Skills or ICT skills.
