Work Experience
At National Star, we believe that gaining hands-on experience in the workplace is vital in developing the confidence and skills of students.
Our Work Experience team work closely with personalised learning coordinators, occupational therapists and tutors to match students to roles that enrich their areas of study, meet their needs and enable them to work towards achieving their personal goals. Work Experience is offered to all students all year round, and provides the foundation for some to progress to paid and unpaid employment placements in their final year with a job mentor.
Work Experience can:
- Increase a student’s confidence and self-awareness
- Enable students to put into practice skills or theory learnt within the classroom
- Enable students to build essential transferable skills
- Give students a taste of real working environments and prepare them for life after college
We’re proud that over the years we’ve built some fantastic partnerships with organisations local to Gloucestershire. We currently offer Work Experience placements with employers that include Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham Ladies College, Cheltenham Animal Shelter, The Butterfly Garden at Dundry Nurseries, Kingfisher Treasure Seekers, SkillZONE and Barnardo’s.
We also offer students Work Experience placements within National Star itself. This gives them the opportunity to gain retail experience in our Student Shop, have hands-on administrative training in one of our offices or try their hand at managing visitors on our reception.
