Foundation Pathway is a flexible programme offering opportunities to develop personal and social skills, work skills, literacy, numeracy and communication skills. It provides vocational subject learning through individualised planning that supports learners working at Entry Level one, two or three.
Personal and social skills
Communication, making personal choices, team working and development of effective skills for learning and work are embedded themes in our Foundation Pathway. Learners are encouraged to make a positive contribution to the college community and gain skills that will support them in becoming active citizens in their adult lives.
Acquiring employability skills is core for learners to support their progression on to paid or voluntary employment. Longer-term goals and work skills are developed in a range of situations relevant to the individual. For example, within a vocational area of interest – such as the college’s theatre and dance companies, sports centre, IT and customer services – or through enterprise projects.
Vocational subject areas
Learners can choose modules of interest from vocational subject areas. The programme is flexible to allow opportunities to select more than one subject specialism over the course of their programme. This includes Creative and Performing Arts (including Visual Arts, Multimedia, Ceramics, Photography, Dance and Music), Sport, IT and Customer Services. Additional studies will enable learners to access other non-accredited activities.
