Join National Star College’s Skills for Work and Supported Internships 2016 Open Day

National Star is offering young people the opportunity to gain the skills and experience they need to help secure a job.
We’re holding a ‘Give It a Go’ open morning on Monday 25 April to explain our range of courses.
On offer will be supported internships in partnership with the Cotswold Riding for the Disabled Association.
The internships will involve young people helping to create a new sensory pathway at RDA Centre in Cheltenham, as well as working with horses and admin roles.
‘This is an exciting opportunity as it will enable us to tailor programmes of learning for young people whose interests lie outside of the normal routes to employment,’ said Pauline Bayliss-Jones, Director of Learning Programmes at National Star.
‘Working with the Riding for the Disabled Association will provide a broad range of practical tasks and sensory experiences to build confidence and better prepare young people for the world of work and adult life.’
Young people can find out more about these internships and other opportunities during the open day at National Star’s Ullenwood campus on 25 April, from 10.30am – 1pm.
Skills for Work and Supported Internships are open to young people from Gloucestershire aged 16 – 25 years, and the programmes work with local employers with support from specialist Job Mentors.
During the open morning young people will be able to try out taster sessions.
‘We are looking for young people who want to learn “on the job” rather than in a classroom. We work individually with people to build on their strengths rather than focus on the things they can’t do’, said Kathryn Rudd, our Principal at National Star College.
What sets our programme apart is that each intern has their own personal Job Mentor. They work closely with employers to find suitable work placements for the learners. The Job Mentors help the learner settle in and only step back once they are confident of their role and the work involved.
The year-long programme is focused on experience in the work place. Learners can work in catering, office administration, printing or retail.
