Learning adds up for Maths Week

National Star learners embraced new and innovative ways to improve their maths skills as part of Maths Week 2017.

An annual event organised by the National Association of Specialist Colleges (NATSPEC), Maths Week aims to shine a spotlight on an area of the curriculum that can be challenging for young people with disabilities or learning difficulties. The event took place from 27 February to 3 March.

This year’s theme was ‘game on,’ which emphasised the effectiveness of different types of game playing in enabling learners to develop and practice their maths skills – and all while having fun.

Learners took part in a variety of maths games and online activities, including shape and colour recognition, adding, subtraction, counting and times of day. They also played matches of boccia – a ball sport – and Connect4.
