National Star leads on technology innovation for Erasmus project
National Star is leading the way in an Erasmus + European project to harness and improve technology that helps people with disabilities.
We shared ideas, assistive technology and systems with visitors from European schools, universities, and organisations.
The group discussed innovative technology such as special glasses which enable people with visual impairments to do everyday tasks and an app which translates unclear voices into clearer voices to help people with disabilities communicate.
Neil Beck, assistive technology assessor at National Star, said the visit had been extremely beneficial for everyone involved.
‘The Erasmus project is so important because it is an opportunity to share different technology, systems and ways of working between our organisations and the wider educational communities in all countries,’ he said.
‘We had a really exciting programme, including input from Microsoft, the Karten Network and the Centre for Technology Enhanced Care.
‘Project partners who visited National Star will take what they have learned back to their countries to improve the provision for their learners. We have set up lasting relationships with partners and contributors, so much so that the Karten Network has agreed to make our project partners honorary members.’
Erasmus is a European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport. Organisations are invited to apply for funding each year to undertake creative and worthwhile activities. Erasmus+ aims to modernise education, training and youth work across Europe.
National Star is leading the project with support from the University of Zagreb in Croatia; Valteri-schools from Finland; and the O.A.E.D. Manpower Organisation of Greece.
