Antigua – Specialist Teacher Education, 2017

Working with the High Commission for Antigua and Barbuda, National Star has been delivering a range of specialist teaching programmes to specialist teachers in Antigua.

In December 2017 we visited Antigua with Josh Reeves, a former National Star student, to take part in the commonwealth conference ‘I am Able’. Josh was invited as a guest speaker and delivered a talk on disability rights and his personal disability awareness campaign ‘Don’t call me special’. Jane Finch, Head of Teacher Education, delivered teacher education sessions to specialist teachers from schools across the island.

Outcomes

We are continuing to support the work of the High Commission and the Care Project, a specialist residential learning facility in Antigua for young people with complex disabilities. Josh and Jane visited the Care Project to speak with staff and learners during their visit.
