Specialist Commonwealth Conference in Antigua, 2019

Four staff from National Star have worked with the Antigua and Barbuda High Commission to organise a Commonwealth conference on disability called ‘I am Able 2’. This conference was a follow-up conference from the inaugural ‘I am Able’ conference delivered in 2017.
The conference, which was held over one week in December 2019, enabled a series of interactive health and wellbeing workshops to be held with local community groups in St. Johns, Antigua. These included healthy eating, exercise and posture workshops and creative activities.
National Star presented conference talks on health and wellbeing and mindful employment to an audience of over 200 delegates. A highlight was National Star’s seated Tai Chi sessions conducted each morning during the conference. Two therapists from National Star also visited the Friends of the Care Project, a community centre for young children with disabilities, where they supported with therapeutic activities.
