National Star has received a heartfelt donation from the Trinity Hall Hesperides Literary and Arts Society, co-run by Luke, a Cambridge University student whose twin brother Jamie attended the college.

Jamie joined National Star in autumn last year and, despite his short time at the college, made a lasting impact on those around him. He was warmly welcomed by staff and students alike and began forging close friendships and even fundraising for the charity. Sadly, Jamie passed away in January, just a few months after starting his journey at National Star.

Luke, alongside fellow society members Aaron and Sarah, has chosen to honour Jamie’s memory by donating proceeds from their revived Zine publication, The Crescent, and the society’s annual dinner and talk. The Zine features creative work, poetry, prose, and visual art, submitted by students and staff from across Trinity Hall and the wider university.

“National Star is a place that means a great deal to me,” said Luke. “Jamie had such a positive experience there. He was supported, celebrated, and embraced as part of a truly special community. We remain incredibly grateful for that.”

Funds raised from the Zine and event tickets will support National Star’s specialist education and care for young people with complex physical and learning disabilities.

“We hope this donation can help others thrive in the same way Jamie had begun to,” Luke added. “We’re incredibly thankful to everyone who supported our work and helped make this gift possible.”
