Foundation House resident enjoys memorable trip to Poland
Staff members Magda and Will thoughtfully planned an accessible holiday, giving resident Rob the opportunity to explore Kraków while building his confidence and creating lasting memories.
Foundation House long-term living resident Rob enjoyed an unforgettable holiday to Kraków, Poland, supported by staff Magda Stasiak and Will Perkins.
The visit offered opportunities to explore history, culture and new experiences. Careful planning and preparation by Magda and Will ensured the trip was safe, accessible and tailored to Rob’s individual needs throughout.
Before travelling, Magda and Will carefully organised every aspect of the holiday, including wheelchair friendly transport, accommodation, activities and support arrangements. Detailed risk assessments were completed, considering accessibility requirements, daily routines and travel logistics. This thorough preparation helped ensure the visit ran smoothly and gave Rob the confidence to fully enjoy the experience.
During the trip, Rob explored some of Poland’s most famous landmarks. One highlight was a visit to the historic Salt Mines, where he discovered impressive underground tunnels, chambers and sculptures carved entirely from salt. He also visited several castles, learning more about Poland’s rich history, architecture and heritage.
A particularly significant part of the visit was a trip to Auschwitz. The experience provided an opportunity for reflection and learning about one of the most important and tragic chapters in world history. Rob also visited Kraków’s Jewish Quarter, where he was able to explore the area’s unique culture, history and atmosphere.
Alongside the sightseeing, Rob immersed himself in Polish culture by sampling traditional cuisine and experiencing local hospitality. These opportunities helped him broaden his horizons, build confidence and gain a deeper understanding of life in another country.
I had a great holiday with great company. I learned so much about the history and really enjoyed the relaxed culture. I also loved the Polish cuisine and, of course, the Polish beer!
Rob’s mum, Jo, said: ‘Rob had an amazing holiday in Poland. It gave him the opportunity to experience new places, make memories and enjoy adventures that might otherwise have been out of reach. The dedication, support and friendship shown by Magda, Will and all the staff involved was outstanding. It means so much to our family that Rob is supported by people who genuinely care. Magda, Lead Facilitator at Foundation House, added: ‘It took a lot of planning and organisation to make this trip happen, but seeing Rob happy made it all worth it. It meant a lot to be able to share my home country with Rob and support him to have such a special experience. We learned so much about the history, which made the trip even more meaningful, and it was a great example of teamwork to ensure Rob had the best possible experience.’
The trip was a wonderful example of how personalised support can enable people to explore new opportunities, experience different cultures and create lasting memories.
