Staff with more than 300 years of combined service to National Star have been recognised for their dedication and commitment at the charity’s annual long-service awards.

Chief Executive Lynette Barrett, supported by other members of the leadership team, presented colleagues with certificates of appreciation and commemorative badges at a glittering awards ceremony at the Hatherley Manor Hotel on Friday.

Addressing the assembled guests, Lynette said: ‘It’s because of people like you that the charity has the first-class reputation that it does among families, professionals, and the wider communities in which we operate.

‘On behalf of the students, residents and their families, trustees, governors and leadership team, we wanted to personally thank you for your commitment and dedication.’

Care and support workers, maintenance team members, residential managers, fundraisers and senior education programme managers, were among colleagues being recognised at the event.

There were cheers and loud applause as each colleague was welcomed to the stage.

Care and Support Worker Magda chose to say a few words when she was presented with her certificate.

She said: ‘Two years ago, I was promoted to a senior position — which was exciting and slightly terrifying. But honestly, it’s been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey: helping others, supporting the team, and seeing everyone grow together.

‘I’ve learned so much about patience, leadership, teamwork, and even how to stay calm when three buzzers go off at once! Working in care is not always easy, but it’s full of heart. It’s the small things that matter – a smile, a chat, a joke, or sharing a meal together.’
