New Trustee for National Star

Cotswold businessman Steve Wynne is set to be appointed as Chair Designate on National Star's Board of Trustees

Steve has spent 40 years in the corporate world and recently began looking for a new opportunity to use the experience, knowledge, and skills he developed as the owner of a large UK based insurance business, for the benefit of others. As the Chief Executive of a Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulated business for more than 20 years, governance, regulation and compliance has been one of Steve’s key responsibilities.

Having regularly driven past National Star at Ullenwood, Steve knew the charity from afar, but it wasn’t until he arranged to have a tour of the campus, as part of the appointment process, that he realised the complexity of the charity and the potential it offered him to give something back to others.

‘I wanted to join a charity that has ambitions for growth in a controlled and measured way and National Star more than fits the bill. I’m planning on soaking up the culture of the charity before helping to drive the organisation forward. I am very excited at this new and exciting opportunity to test my grey matter!’ said Mr Wynne.

‘As Chair Designate, I believe I can help support, inform, and contribute to the strategy and vision of National Star and I am hugely excited to join the trustee board in January.
Current Chair of Trustees, Paul Styles, who has devoted almost 35 years of service to the charity, will remain in post while Steve receives a thorough introduction to National Star and gets to know the charity.

‘The Trustee selection panel undertook its thorough recruitment process and has recommended Steve Wynne to the Trustee Board as Chair Designate, in readiness for my retirement from the Board during 2024.

‘I wish Steve well as he prepares to take up this appointment and look forward to National Star’s continued success delivering education, care and therapy services for young people with disabilities.’ said Mr Styles.
