Transition talks – Friday 25 October
Our transition event features talks on applying for benefits post-National Star, including Universal Credit, setting up parent-managed supported living services, with Q&A sessions and a group of former learners talk about their experiences since leaving National Star.

11am - 11.45am | Talk 1: Benefits - Stuart Seagrave from the DWP will be talking about what Benefits your young person will need to apply for as they move on from National Star - such as Universal Credit to cover housing costs, the importance of obtaining Appointeeship or Deputyship and updating any changes to the relevant professionals. 12.15pm - 1pm | Talk 2: Setting up a parent-managed supported living service – the who, why, when, what & how? - Find out about the pros and cons of setting up a supported living service for your young person from the perspectives of a parent the care provider and one of the service users. Sue Whitehead - parent of one of our ex-Learners, joins Katie Armstrong from Safehands to share their journey and recruitment of a care provider for her son & 3 other young people in a supported living provision they set up at Wick Hill Farm in Buckinghamshire. Sue & Katie will also be joined by current service user, Jason Felce. Q&A to follow.
