Intern Ben lands dream job at Holiday Inn
Ben Hodge is celebrating a year of being in his dream job – and he says it is all thanks to National Star.
He landed the permanent job at the Holiday Inn Express in Quedgeley, after an eight–week placement.
Ben, aged 23, had applied for scores of jobs before winning a Marks & Spencer funded traineeship at StarBistro.
‘I was applying for 10 jobs a day and while sometimes I was offered interviews, I never seemed to get any further,’ said Ben. ‘I felt my disability was holding me back and I just needed an employer to give me a chance.
‘National Star helped me become more confident. This is the first step to me fulfilling my ambition which is to manage a restaurant and a team of my own.’
National Star runs personalised internships for young adults with disabilities and learning difficulties. This year 22 interns are working with a wide range of employers in businesses ranging from groundwork to administration.
