Our new outdoor gym
During spring and summer our sports field at Ullenwood was transformed into a vibrant outdoor space with a wheelchair friendly path and a range of fantastic outdoor gym equipment.
Thanks to our generous supporters, including the Severn Trent Community Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund, we were able to install an accessible path around the perimeter of the sports field and several pieces of inclusive gym equipment.
The path has an ecomulch black rubber composite surface to contrast with the grass and help identify the path edges for those with visual impairments and spatial awareness difficulties. The path is a fantastic addition for students practising their mobility skills in power wheelchairs.
The outdoor equipment includes an accessible combined pull–down and chest press, an arm and pedal bike, a seated leg press, a side surfer and a wheelchair roundabout. We’ve also installed lighting close to the path so the gym can be used in winter. Small cleaning huts next to the equipment will ensure we can keep the equipment clean.
‘This is a fantastic resource which our students can use in their therapy, sports and leisure sessions, helping with their mental and physical wellbeing, and making the most of our beautiful grounds,’ said Physiotherapy Manager Verity Fisher.
