Keira takes the leap for National Star
Paralympians inspired 11–year–old Keira Hynes to abseil 40ft down the Ecotricity building in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
Keira watched the 2016 Paralympics with her mum Zoë and knew all about the games thanks to family friend and Paralympian James Brown. Double gold–medal winning cyclist James, who is partially sighted, is also a supporter of National Star.
The Nailsworth Primary pupil said: ‘There are some disabled people who don’t get to do what they want. I am raising money to support them so that they can become who they want to be.’
Keira surpassed her original £150 target and raised over £400.
Martha goes the extra mile
Martha Taylor decided to run the Bristol Half Marathon in aid of National Star after seeing how the charity supported Nicki, one of her closest friends.
Nicki started at National Star two years after experiencing a life–changing brain injury following a serious car accident. Nicki had to relearn how to talk, walk and keep herself safe out in the community.
Martha, who raised over £600, said: ‘The work that National Star did to help Nicki become the independent and confident person she is today, as well as their invaluable work with people of all disabilities, is incredible.’
