Every day I make a difference
Alan Stockton loves his job. And the reason? The National Star learners he works with.
He joined National Star at the age of 18 after deciding he wanted to work in the care sector.
That was 14 years ago. Since then Alan has progressed through his career and is now a residential manager, responsible for our Bradbury Gardens accommodation in Cheltenham.
During that time National Star has supported Alan as he completed the different levels of Health and Social Care qualifications.
‘National Star has been really good at tapping into my thirst for wanting to better myself and has encouraged me to progress,’ said Alan.
‘People feel that caring is an unskilled job, but you have to be extremely skilled. You have people’s lives in your hands.
‘What has kept me at National Star? No doubt, it’s the learners. The group changes every year and with that comes new challenges and new skills to learn.
‘No day is ever the same and every day has its challenges – and its anxieties. But knowing you are making a real difference to people is the reward that makes it all worthwhile.’
