Trustees
Our trustees are all volunteers from a variety of different backgrounds. The charity is also a company limited by guarantee so the trustees are also Company Directors. The Board of Trustees hold the charity ‘in trust’ for current and future beneficiaries by:
- Setting the charity’s vision, mission and values
- Developing strategy and monitoring performance
- Seeking the views of current and future beneficiaries when developing strategy and services
- Acting as the guardians of the charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible
- Ensuring the charity complies with all its legal and regulatory requirements
- Ensuring that the charity’s governance is effective
The Chief Executive provides the secretariat services for the Board of Trustees.

Governors
The Board of Governors bring a range of skills and expertise to the charity. Governors support the Principal and oversee the running of National Star College.
Their main responsibilities are:
- Overseeing and monitoring the college activities
- Maintaining safety of students and staff
- Approving the quality strategy of the college
- Ensuring students have access to a personalised, broad and balanced curriculum to prepare them for life after college
- Approving the college’s strategic plan in line with the charity’s strategic plan
- Agreeing targets, monitoring progress and raising standards
- Ensuring the necessary policies and procedures are in place

National Star Advisory Board
National Star is looking for people in the local community to be part of an Advisory Board. The Board works alongside Governors and Trustees to ensure that new and existing services meet the needs of disabled people. Advisory board members do not need any particular qualifications. We very welcome ‘experts by lived experience’ who are willing to share their views on what it’s like to live, learn or work with a disability. We encourage people of all ages, backgrounds and disabilities to apply.
