Job description
Based in Manor Barn Residence with the option of working term time only or all year.
National Star is introducing a new and exciting opportunity for residential facilitators (care and support workers) to become specialist facilitators with a focus on embedding speech and language therapy systems and strategies into students’ daily routines.
One third of the newly created role will be dedicated to developing your knowledge and understanding of how to support the communication skills of students with speech and language impairments, including those who use Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) devices.
The rest of the time specialist residential facilitators will remain within the residential team, undertaking normal facilitator duties including:
- Delivering all aspects of personal care
- Administering medication if trained to do so
- Ensuring all student documentation is up-to-date and accurate
In addition, we hope that when working with colleagues you will share your growing knowledge and skills around speech and language therapy. This is an exciting new role which will allow facilitators to enhance their skills and knowledge of speech and language therapy while leading by example to colleagues.
This will involve:
- Promoting speech and language therapy systems and strategies
- Developing and promoting the use of communication resources throughout all aspects of life for students or residents
- Champion speech and language therapy and use of relevant language/terminology in student residences
- Identifying speech and language therapy successes and updates as points for discussion during residential team meetings and feedback to the named SLT for relevant students
- Observing students or residents and support staff to complete effective Databridge updates that support learner progress.
Hours of work will be based on resident requirement on a rota basis, including early and late shifts across 7 days including working every other weekend.
